Musing about Withers’ Wardrobe of Wayward Friends…

Posted on November 13, 2023November 13, 2023 by CrispyWalrus

thinking that it doesn’t work fully as it should. By that I mean the interaction that happens playing with a group.

Right now everyone up to your coop limit (8 in my case) can start a game together and create a character each. If you’re still under your limit additional people can join the group and also create a character. This seems to all be as it should be. You can see in the picture that the Wardrobe has plenty of space for fifteen characters. I hosted and we only had seven players.

As you can see there are now six player characters in the Wardrobe:

Here is where it gets interesting.

Following the previous pattern one would expect that a final 8th player joining me should be able to create a character and join in our fun. The problem is though that unless our group of 7 are all again on at the same time that new player will simply assume the role of another player’s character.

This is pretty strange behavior given the space in the Wardrobe and how it works when everyone is on together. The larger the group though the harder it seems to regroup with the exact same people each time I fire up the game.

So here I am the morning after trying to catch up my friend Wolfrider and I want him to be our 8th and create a character to join us tonight or whenever we continue next but when he logs in he gets a character already in the Wardrobe rather than the option as a new player to our mix create a new player character.

Why?

I still have space in my party within the coop limit. This is problem 1.

Less than a Full Party (3/4, 7/8 and such) and unable to create a new PC

Let’s say he waits until tonight to join and we have all six other people online too. He is then able to create a new character and we will have 8 total. The next problem is still the same.

Every time a new player joins the have to use someone else’s player character rather than creating their own.

Withers’ Wardrobe ostensibly exists to facilitate offline players. It has visible space for 15 characters.

Why is its limit that of the multiplayer coop?

Why can’t I have up to 15 friends each with their own PC in the Wardrobe to pull out and play with whichever 7 show up for a given session?
